Who are Amateur Athletes?
Professional athletes have the time, resources and funding to fully dedicate themselves to their sport.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are recreational athletes who train for fun, general wellbeing or personal development.
But what about those of us who sit in the gap between?

Triathlete & Marathon Runner
I thought I just wasn’t sporty. But after herniating my L4 and L5 discs, running became the single most transformative element of my life.
Now, my sport is a huge part of my identity, my priorities and my focus. Finding sport as an adult has been a whirlwind and navigating what is a saturated, noisy and sometimes elitist space as a total beginner has been challenging. But I have finally found a flow that allows me to train for performance, progress my career in brand and balance other life priorities - enjoying every step.
It’s easy to forget that it really is that simple.

Amateur Footballer
I’ve played football for as long as I can remember. What began as a hobby became more serious when I joined an academy at 11.

Unfortunately, I didn’t make the most of that opportunity, which dawned on me during the COVID-19 lockdown. This was when I finally committed to stepping up my training.

Just as I was getting going, I was hit with two back-to-back lateral meniscus tears, keeping me off the pitch from 2020 to 2024. It was my first long-term injury, and it took a major toll mentally, but it also taught me patience and perspective.

Now I am fully recovered and fully committed to progressing in the sport I love. Best believe I take recovery much more seriously. Through The Amateur Athlete Diaries, I will share what I’ve learned along the way and continue to learn.
